A pedestrian on Interstate 580 died Saturday evening after being hit by a vehicle as it drove through Oakland, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The person was hit about 9:15 p.m. on the westbound lanes of I-580, just west of Highway 24, said Karina Oseguera, a Highway Patrol spokeswoman. The name of the person killed has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
No one in the vehicle that hit the pedestrian appeared to have been injured, Oseguera said.
Few other details have been released about the crash. The collision initially forced the closure of I-580, though the freeway has since reopened.
