Museum Moon Festival

The Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose is hosting a Mid-Autumn Moon Festival Sept. 10 to explore the Chinese and Vietnamese customs of celebrating and giving thanks to the moon and the harvest season.

In many parts of Asia, it’s common during a Mid-Autumn Moon Festival to honor and worship the moon, the people who work the land and the food that is cultivated. The festivals coincide with the full moon on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month.

Festival attendees can make clay mooncakes, watch lion dance performances by Yun Yee Tong USA at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and stop by the museum’s theater to learn more about the holiday and listen and dance to traditional music.

The festival is set for 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the museum, 180 Woz Way. For more information, visit https://www.cdm.org/celebrate/community-celebrations/mid-autumn-moon-festival.

Redistricting success

The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District, or Midpen, has received kudos from a major statewide agency for its redistricting efforts. The California Special Districts Association awarded the South Bay agency the 2022 Excellence in Technology Award for its ward boundary redistricting project. Throughout the redistricting process, Midpen used interactive mapping tools to help keep residents informed and get public feedback. To view the tools, visit openspace.org/redistricting.
