Two men armed with blunt objects stole upwards of $80,000 of jewelry in a smash-and-grab robbery at a business inside a Moreno Valley market on Friday, Sept. 2.
Just before 3 p.m., the suspects entered the business in the Cardenas Market in the 25000 block of Sunnymead Boulevard, off Perris Boulevard and south of the 60 Freeway. The suspects carried hammers or similar objects to break open a display case, said Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Edward Soto.
The business is not a jewelry store, but had a case containing jewelry, Soto said.
There were no injuries reported, and neither of the suspects were seen carrying guns.
Cardenas Markets in Riverside, Murrieta and Fontana have also been similarly hit since July. Thieves made off with about $100,000 from the Cardenas Market on La Sierra Avenue in Riverside, according to Javier Cabrera, a Police Department spokesman. He and police in Fontana said detectives in the region are comparing notes to determine whether the same robbers hit the stores.
A jewelry store in Montclair was also hit by smash-and-grab robbers last week, and a three-person robbery crew hit a West Covina jewelry store a day after.
There were no arrests announced on Saturday.
