ALAMEDA — A 25-year-old resident was in county jail after his weekend arrest on suspicion of felony vandalism in connection with a tire-slashing spree that left more than a hundred vehicles damaged Friday, authorities said.

In a statement, police said officers responded Friday evening to the 1600 block of Webster Street in West Alameda  for a report of multiple vehicles vandalized, with tires punctured and paint scratched on many.

Officers responded and found evidence of over a hundred vehicles similarly damaged, and worked to contact or leave notes for registered owners, police said.

Soon after, officers managed to obtain surveillance-camera video footage that helped them identify a 25-year-old man, who was arrested around 12:30 a.m. Saturday — his 25th birthday — on suspicion of vandalism.

The man, who was listed in custody Sunday evening at Santa Rita jail and held on $500,000 bail, and faces arraignment Wednesday morning at Oakland’s Wiley Manuel courthouse, according to a county records check.

Police say they are asking anyone whose vehicle may have been damaged from 8:30 to 11 p.m. Friday to e-mail Alameda police Officer James Green at jgreen@alamedaca.gov.

Owners should provide registered owner information, including name, driver’s license number, address and phone number, a vehicle description with license plate and year, make and model, the vehicle’s parked location, a description of any vandalism, including photographs and whether the vehicle’s registered owner wishes to prosecute.
