Archbishop Mitty field hockey player Tiana Osuna is the Bay Area News Group girls athlete of the week of Oct. 24-30 after she received 12,789 votes (29.66%) by the 5 p.m. deadline on Wednesday

Sacred Heart Prep water polo player Natalia Szczerba grabbed 10,722 votes (24.87%) to finish second.

Burlingame volleyball player Ella Duong finished third in a highly competitive week of voting.

Osuna took just one shot at Los Altos last week. But the junior forward made the most of the opportunity by scoring the only goal of her season in the 3-0 win. That result closed out a 17-2-1 regular season for the Monarchs.

To nominate an athlete for next week’s poll, email highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com by Monday, Nov. 7 by 11 a.m. Please include stats and team results.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps.com by coaches/team statisticians for consideration.

Winners are announced each Friday on the Mercury News & East Bay Times websites.

Past winners:

Oct. 17-22: Kira Clark, Mission San Jose water polo

Oct. 10-15: Brooke Dombrowski, Menlo volleyball

Oct. 3-8: Vanessa Calvillo, Santa Clara volleyball

Sept. 26 to Oct. 1: Hannah Soetaert, Branham cross country
