OAKLAND — A man was shot Friday afternoon in East Oakland, police said.
The man was taken to a hospital where he was initially listed in critical condition.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, was shot about 2:24 p.m. Friday as he was walking in the area of 81st Avenue and San Leandro Street, a mostly industrial area.
Police were trying to determine if the man was shot by someone who approached him on the street or by someone who was in a passing vehicle. The shooter fled before police could respond to the scene.
Several shell casings were found in the area. A motive for the shooting is under investigation.
Portions of 81st Avenue and San Leandro Street were shut down while police investigated.
