Howl-o-ween winners

Champ was crowned the champ at the second annual Howl-o-ween pet costume contest hosted by Milpitas Police Department on Oct. 27. Second place went to Hot Dog, while Rambo took third.

In addition to playing host, officers answered public safety questions, and representatives from Animal Control and Parktown Vet answered pet-related queries. Milpitas police also demonstrated the department’s night vision drone.

Dog fosterers needed

Humane Society Silicon Valley needs foster families for dogs and puppies and has upcoming onboarding sessions to teach all about the ins and outs of fostering. Foster families are especially needed to help some harder-to-place animals: pregnant and/or nursing moms and puppies; dogs with medical needs; and larger adult dogs weighing 40 lbs. and more; large dogs like Huskies and German Shepherds that need a lot of both physical and mental stimulation; and large or medium-size dogs that might need some extra training around socializing with other dogs or strangers.

For more information, visit https://www.hssv.org/volunteer/foster-an-animal/#fosterdogpuppy.

The Humane Society also has many dogs available for adoption for those looking to bring a furry friend home for the holidays. Visit https://adopt.hssvmil.org to see available pets.

The newly renovated campus at 125 N. Milpitas Blvd. has 20 classrooms, a performance-equipped multipurpose room, a library and outdoor playground space.
