A small earthquake jostled the East Bay on Saturday afternoon, government seismologists reported.
The 2.9 magnitude quake was reported just before 4:30 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Its epicenter was in Mt. Diablo State Park, a popular destination for hikers in Contra Costa County.
The quake was 15.9 km below the earth’s surface, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
An earthquake of this magnitude is considered minor and rarely causes damage or is widely felt.
