Bay Area High School Sports. Basketball (Nhat V. Meyer/Bay Area News Group)
Piedmont Hills basketball player Joseph Bangalan is the Bay Area News Group’s boys high school athlete of the week for Jan. 23-28 after he received 50.80% of the vote by the 5 p.m. deadline Wednesday.
Burlingame basketball player Zaden Martin (35.52%) finished second and Santa Clara soccer player Alen Begovic took third.
Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.
Bangalan, a senior, had himself a game against Lincoln-San Jose. He finished with 32 points on 9-of-10 shooting — all from beyond the 3-point arc — as Piedmont Hills won 81-79 in league play.
He also had 12 points in a 56-53 loss to Independence.
