An inmate escaped the Calaveras County Jail on Thursday evening while taking out the trash, the sheriff’s office reported.
Larry Albert McDonald Jr., 41, was performing the supervised duty with another inmate outside the San Andreas building at 6:38 p.m. when he sprinted to the facility’s back fence, climbed over the razor wire and fled into a field, the report said.
A search by officers from several agencies, using dogs and a helicopter, failed to find the man. The sheriff’s office asks that anyone who sees him call 911.
A resident of San Andreas, McDonald was in custody for felony possession of a dagger as well as two misdemeanors.
He is described as 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds and was recently clean-shaven. When he fled, he was wearing a blue top, blue pants and black shoes.
