Rain forecast for the next few days has forced Caltrans to cancel scheduled paving work and the weekend closure of northbound lanes of Interstate 680 between Sunol and Pleasanton.
The 4-mile closure between State Route 84 near Koopman Road and Sunol Boulevard was orginally set to begin Friday and continue through 5 a.m. Monday, so crews could work to remove and replace the entire roadway sections of the freeway, according to a Caltrans representative. Roadwork was scheduled for the next two weekends as well, but on Thursday, officials canceled that roadwork until the weather is better.
The planned roadwork is part of a project that encompasses northbound Interstate 680 between Sunol and San Ramon to improve safety and provide a smoother ride for motorists, according to Caltrans.
