The Brooklyn Nets have traded star guard Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a 2029 first-round pick and future second-round picks, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The deal comes days after Irving requested a trade from Brooklyn after he and the Nets failed to reach an agreement on a contract extension ahead of the Feb. 9 NBA trade deadline.

The deal also vaults the Mavericks into legitimate championship contention pairing Irving, an All-Star starter, with Dallas’ Luka Doncic, a candidate for NBA Most Valuable Player of the Year.

It effectively ends, however, the championship window in Brooklyn, with the focus now shifting to Nets star forward Kevin Durant, who rival teams are keeping tabs on in case he asks for a trade with Irving now out of town.

Irving averaged 27 points, five rebounds and five assists per game for the Nets this season.

More to come on this developing story.
