A San Jose police officer was shot in the leg overnight on Friday in a standoff at a home in East San Jose and hospitalized with a non-life-threatening injury, police said.

At around 10:30 p.m., officers pulled over a vehicle at the intersection of King and Story roads. The driver immediately got out of the car and began firing a weapon at officers, police said.

A police patrol car was hit multiple times by gunshots. Officers then returned fire at the man, striking his vehicle as it sped away.

Police opened an investigation and later arrived at a home on the 800 block of Sinbad Avenue. As officers approached, the man exited the home and opened fire, striking one officer in the leg, police said. The officer was then taken to a local hospital where he is being treated.

Officers did not return fire at the man at that point, police said. He surrendered and was taken into custody, and “will face charges including attempted homicide of a police officer,” police said.

This story will be updated.
