OAKLAND — A 17-year-old boy was found shot to death early Friday in East Oakland, authorities said.
His name was not immediately released by police. Investigators said he lived in the area of the shooting.
Officers responding to a ShotSpotter alert about 1:32 a.m. Friday found the youth outside in the 8000 block of Dowling Street, a mainly residential area. He was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.
Investigators were trying to determine a motive for the killing. No arrests were announced.
The killing is the ninth homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year, police had investigated the same number of homicides in the city by Feb. 3.
