Valley Water has $1.4 million in Safe, Clean Water Grants available

A $28,409 Safe, Clean Water Program grant from Valley Water in 2020 allowed the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy to lead 20 field trips where 562 students learned about riparian corridors, pollution prevention and environmental stewardship along the river. Clean water grants

Valley Water is accepting applications for its 2023 Safe, Clean Water Grants Program, which provides funding for projects that support the mission of providing safe, clean water for a healthy life, environment and economy.

Valley Water has a total of $1.4 million with no minimum or maximum amount per project that fits into the following categories: water conservation, pollution prevention, volunteer cleanup efforts and education, wildlife habitat restoration and access to trails and open space.

Applications are due by March 10. Valley Water will host a virtual workshop March 1, 10-11:30 a.m., where applicants can learn more about the available grants and their requirements. For more information, visit valleywater.org/grants.

Neighborhood Notes

WILLOW GLEN>>Two Willow Glen residents are among seven adult volunteers to receive this year’s Silver Beaver Award, the highest recognition bestowed to a volunteer for their work in Scouting at the local level.

Eagle Scout Chris McGugan has held many roles during his time as a volunteer with Boy Scouts. He has served as den leader, cubmaster, assistant scoutmaster, merit badge counselor and a member of the Scouts’ Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council Board.

Stan Searing has been an assistant scoutmaster in Troop 260 since his kids were Scouts. He has been a volunteer at Scout-O-Rama, Cub Camp, Order of the Arrow and STEM. He was the Quicksilver District camping chair for six years. Searing has also been on the Black Shirt Crew for a dozen years, providing audio and video help to the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council for fundraisers and the council dinner.
