SAN JOSE — Police arrested a man in connection to an April road-rage incident and seized 40 firearms from his possession, including a fully automatic submachine gun, according to authorities.
Police received a report around 9:30 a.m. on April 13 of a driver brandishing a firearm at another driver during a road-rage incident at the intersection of Quimby Road and Remington Way. The suspect fled the scene but officers from the department’s Field Training Program identified him and, with the help of supervising full-time officers, obtained arrest and search warrants, police said.
Officers arrested the suspect on April 28 and searched his San Jose residence. After obtaining an emergency gun-violence restraining order, police seized 40 firearms, including 21 semi-automatic and bolt-action rifles, 16 handguns, two shotguns and one full-auto submachine gun. Three of the 16 handguns were “ghost guns,” police said; they also took about 10,000 rounds of ammunition.
“The recruit Officers took it upon themselves to locate and arrest a person who had demonstrated he was no longer a responsible firearm owner,” San Jose police Chief Anthony Mata said in a news release.
The suspect, a 71-year-old San Jose resident, was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail.
