CLAYTON — A motorcyclist crashed after skidding off a rural road and died late Sunday, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened about 9:05 p.m. on eastbound Marsh Creek Road in an unincorporated part of the city, according to a statement from CHP Officer Adam Lane. Authorities did not identify the person early Monday, pending notification of relatives.

According to Lane, the motorcycle was near the Three Springs Staging Area on Marsh Creek Road when it failed to make a turn in the roadway. The motorcycle toppled over and hit the dirt embankment, throwing the driver from his seat.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP is looking for witnesses to the crash as they continue to investigate, Lane said. They’re asking anyone who may have seen the motorcycle in the moments leading up to the wreck to contact them at 925-646-4980 or by emailing 320investigations@chp.ca.gov.
