Speaking in Australia, Blinken said on Saturday that continued security and economic arrangements for Niger hinge on the release of deposed President Mohamed Bazoum and “the immediate restoration of the democratic order in Niger.” Members of Niger's military announced on Wednesday they had deposed the democratically elected president and on Friday named Gen. Abdourahmane Tchiani as the country’s new leader.
