SANTA CLARA – A soccer fan was stabbed at least once while attending the CONCACAF Gold Cup this weekend at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, authorities said.

The incident was reported just after 8:45 p.m. Sunday, said Santa Clara police Lt. Cuong Phan.

Phan said the victim was stabbed near the collarbone. The fan was taken to an area hospital with a “critical injury,” but is recovering.

The stabbing took place during a fight in the stands, according to graphic videos posted to social media.

Additional details about the incident were not immediately available Monday afternoon. Cuong said he expected to release more information in the coming days.

Sunday night’s match featured Mexico and Qatar, with the latter winning by a score of 1-0. Both nations are set to advance to the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals.
