Wine Spectator’s latest awards include the usual golden oldies as well as some newbies. Congrats to The Plumed Horse in Saratoga for being named a Grand Award Winner for 2023.

Taking Awards of Excellence this year for the first time were The Tasting House in Los Gatos and Be.Steak.A in Campbell.

Also named were Adega in San Jose, Chez TJ in Mountain View, Forbes Mill in Los Gatos, LB Steak in Santana Row and Mastro’s Steakhouse in Santa Clara. The Tasting House is getting serious notoriety: the US Women’s Soccer team just booked an event there, on their way to the World Cup.

The Tasting House will hold a Champagne and food pairing event on Aug. 15 at 6 p.m., featuring six outstanding Champagnes, including 2008 Piper-Heidsieck Rare Brut Millesime and 2002 Pol Roger Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill Brut, accompanied by small plates crafted by executive chef and certified sommelier Ryan Fillhardt. Tickets are $750 at https://www.tastinghouse.com/events.

Brunch is now served at Eataly on the weekends at Westfield Valley Fair, at the rooftop Terra restaurant overlooking the mall and airport. In addition to the vast regular menu, there are four brunchy entrees, including avocado toast on their house-made bread, and wagyu ribeye with eggs. The tiramisu is a standout, and the wine list has some real gems, including an orange pinot grigio.

The Santana Row Farmers Market, featuring over 25 vendors, is in full swing every Wednesday through September, 4-8 p.m., with organic vegetables, local cheeses, breads, flowers, herbs, olives, rotisserie chicken. Don’t miss Roxanne’s Biscotti from Morgan Hill. Purchase a to-go cocktail from the Row’s restaurants while shopping.

Testarossa is thinking ahead to harvest and has already set Sept. 14 for their harvest Farm-to-Table Dinner, with food by executive chef Nadiv Geiger. The five-course menu will feature Wolfe ranch quail and panzanella with squash blossoms, paired with the latest releases and library selections. Tickets are $199 at https://www.exploretock.com/testarossawinery.
