WALNUT CREEK — A man doing maintenance died Monday from injuries suffered when a vehicle hopped a curb and hit him, police said Tuesday.
The name of the man killed was not immediately released.
The fatal collision happened about 1:21 p.m. Monday on Ygnacio Valley Road, east of Lennon Lane.
Police said preliminary details indicated a motorist was driving westbound on Ygnacio Valley Road when their vehicle drifted to the right, hopped the curb and struck the man doing maintenance work. The man hit was working in a grassy area off the roadway, possibly on sprinkler heads, police said.
The man hit was conscious when officers found him but had sustained significant injuries, police said. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.
The driver of the vehicle that hit him was not injured, police said. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with responding officers, police said.
No information has been released about the driver or the kind of vehicle they were driving.
The cause of the collision is under investigation. Anyone with information may call police at 925-935-6400.
