RICHMOND — Investigators have identified a suspect and secured an arrest warrant for a driver they believe fatally hit a bicyclist last week on Richmond Parkway, police said.
Authorities identified the bicyclist as 60-year-old David Sexton, of San Francisco. He was dead when officers arrived to the Richmond Parkway at Goodrick Avenue about 10 p.m. July 1.
Richmond police spokesperson Sgt. Donald Patchin said the vehicle that hit the bicyclist kept going after the collision. Authorities have obtained a arrest warrant for a felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter, he said.
Witness statements after the crash allowed investigators to identify the vehicle. Patchin said they later found it abandoned in San Pablo with damage matching the suspect vehicle as described by witnesses.
“We know that speed is a factor in this,” Patchin said. “It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor.”
Police did not give any information about the vehicle or identify the suspect publicly, citing the investigation.
