The Clayton Fire was reported around 2:30 p.m. Thursday east of Clayton Road. Within about six hours, it had burned 66 acres (0.1 square miles) and was 30% contained, said the Santa Clara unit of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
No evacuation orders or warnings were issued, though the fire approached homes in the Via de la Vista and Three Springs areas, near the GrandView Restaurant. Thirty structures were threatened, Cal Fire said.
