A Monrovia high school teacher has been arrested on suspicion of having an illegal sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl in Rancho Cucamonga, authorities announced Wednesday.

Chad Robert Miller, 38, was in custody on $100,000 bail after he was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 6, by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department on suspicion of contacting a minor to commit a sex offense and two counts of sexual contact with a minor.

Authorities allege that Miller, a teacher at Canyon Oaks High School in Monrovia, met a 16-year-old girl on a social media app in April and corresponded with her over five months.

“Miller also met the victim in person and engaged in several illicit sexual acts with her” at multiple locations in Rancho Cucamonga, a Sheriff’s statement said.

He was being held at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, the statement said.

“Learning that an adult trusted to work with children may have violated an important trust is unsettling,” Monrovia Unified School District Superintendent Ryan Smith said in a letter to district families, adding that Miller is also a teacher at the K-12 Mountain Park Independent Study School.

“The teacher was immediately placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation and is not allowed on a school campus at this time,” said the letter.

Smith in his letter said the district was advised the minor involved in the case is not a Monrovia Unified student. However, he said the district will cooperate with the investigation and he urged anyone with information that might be helpful to detectives to contact them at 909 477-2893.
