SAN FRANCISCO — The funeral for the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein will now be closed to the public due to increased need for security, her office announced Wednesday, according to published reports.

Feinstein’s Thursday funeral at City Hall in San Francisco was originally to open to members of the public to attend from afar. But now her office has scrapped those plans, limiting the service to invited guests.

The service is set to be held outside but with a security perimeter that will disallow anyone whose not invited from seeing or hearing the service, KPIX reported.

At 90, Feinstein was the oldest member of Congress and the longest-serving woman in the chamber’s history. Before that she served as mayor of San Francisco after the assassinations of George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk in city hall. Feinstein is the 302nd senator to die in office and the first since John McCain.
