OAKLAND — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train Friday morning in the Fruitvale district, authorities said.
Authorities did not immediately specify the gender of the person killed. Their identity will be released after notification of their next of kin.
The collision happened about 8:45 a.m. Friday in the 3400 block of East 9th Street.
Initial reports were that a person walking on the railroad tracks was struck by a train. Officials have not yet said if it was an Amtrak train or a freight train.
The person was pronounced dead at the scene.
None of the people on board the train were reported injured.
The death is the second this week in the East Bay of someone hit by a train.
On Wednesday evening a woman died after she was hit by an Amtrak train while she was walking on the tracks near Harrison Street in Berkeley.
