ORINDA — Two people were arrested Tuesday following a home burglary that caused police to close down a key roadway and lock down an elementary school in their search for the suspects, authorities said.
Police arrested a 30-year-old San Francisco man on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy and resisting arrest, according to a statement from Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jimmy Lee. The sheriff’s office contracts with the city of Orinda to police the city.
Officers also arrested a second person who Lee said authorities were unable to identify immediately. At 3 p.m., they still were searching for the third suspect, he said.
Police closed down Moraga Way in both directions while searching for the three, and Glorietta Elementary School was locked down, authorities said. They lifted the lockdown about 11:10 a.m., according to Angel Sorenson, an executive assistant to the superintendent for the Orinda Union School District.
It all started about 8:25 a.m., when officers were called to Knickerbocker Lane for a report of a suspicious person. According to Lee, the officers found a vehicle also mentioned by the reporting party in a driveway on Lloyd Lane.
Lee said the officers went to check the vehicle and were confronted by three people coming out of the front door holding items stolen from the unoccupied residence. According to Lee, the three dropped the items immediately and ran back into the house and out the back door.
One officer caught up to the San Francisco man after a chase, Lee said. A San Ramon police dog called into search found the second one hiding under a shed.
