Stephen Curry has earned the 20th Western Conference player of the week honor of his career, thanks to some big-time plays including a game-winning basket Friday in Oklahoma City.
The Warriors’ star guard averaged 30.3 points, 4.8 assists and 1.3 steals over four games as the Warriors went 3-1.
Curry, 35, now has four times as many weekly honors as any other Warrior since the award began in 1979: Tim Hardaway is second in team history with five awards in his career, while Baron Davis, Chris Mullin and Klay Thompson are tied with four.
He made at least four 3-pointers in each of the Warriors’ four games this week, and made seven each in last Monday’s win in New Orleans and Sunday’s loss in Cleveland. In all, he shot 52.3% on 3-pointers and 57.4% from the field last week.
Curry gave the Warriors the win over the Thunder in their first in-season tournament game on a scoop layup with 0.2 seconds remaining. The basket was granted after a review found that Draymond Green did not touch the ball as it hung on the rim.
That was the Warriors’ second consecutive final-second win: While Thompson made the game-winning basket Wednesday against the Kings, Curry also made a key shot in the final minute to give the Warriors a lead.
The two-time Most Valuable Player is currently fourth in odds to win another MVP award at most sportsbooks, behind Denver’s Nikola Jokic, Dallas’ Luka Doncic and Boston’s Jayson Tatum, the Eastern Conference player of the week.
