TMZ is reporting the “strong” possibility that Kourtney Kardashian gave birth to her son with Travis Baker this week and has raised the idea that the reality TV star’s labor was induced so that the baby would arrive on Halloween, which is what she and her musician husband were hoping for.
TMZ cites several clues and “strong evidence” to bolster the case that Kardashian gave birth this week — possibly on Tuesday. First, the gossip site received tips that Kardashian showed up at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles Monday. Cedars-Sinai is the preferred hospital for women in the Kardashian family to deliver their children, TMZ noted.
TMZ also published photos showing Barker and Kardashian’s younger sister, Kylie Jenner, arriving separately at the hospital Thursday, perhaps to visit the mom and her new baby, People also reported that Jenner was photographed arriving at the hospital.
Meanwhile, TMZ confirmed that Kardashian’s due date was this week and received another tip that the labor was going to be induced.
“And that brings us to the next clue,” TMZ said. “Travis and Kourtney have said they wanted the baby to be born on Halloween, which was this past Tuesday. If this was an induced birth and she was due this week, that kinda makes sense.”
Indeed, the Blink-182 drummer revealed on the “One Life One Chance with Toby Morse” podcast, which dropped earlier this week, that the baby’s name would be Rocky Thirteen and that his due date was Halloween, People reported. That news prompted the podcast host to say to Barker, “C’mon dude. You couldn’t have planned that any better.”
“I know. It’s either Halloween or like, the first week of November,” Barker said.
It’s perhaps not surprising that a Kardashian family member would try to engineer the delicate process of birth and the induction of labor for a non-medical reason to make sure that the baby was, in fact, born on a holiday like Halloween. The could give them the bragging rights to be able to say their baby was born on a holiday, as evidenced by Barker’s podcast comments.
A Oct. 31 birth date for their child could make for some enticing headlines, future social media posts or TV drama — with a future episode of The Kardashians focused on Kardashian planning a lavish. haunted house-themed birthday party for her son or worrying that his special day will sidelined by everyone’s focus on trick-or-treating.
On the other hand, Kardashian has revealed that she hasn’t had an easy time with this pregnancy, her fourth. In September, she revealed that she had to undergo an emergency fetal surgery for an unspecified medical condition, prompting Barker to leave his tour and fly home to be with her. Late last month, an “insider” told Us Weekly that Kardashian was on bed rest, “as a precaution,” and there was talk then that her labor might be induced.
When it comes to inducing labor, the Mayo Clinic said doctors recommend the procedure for various reasons, but primarily when there’s concern for the mother’s or baby’s health. Induction involves prompting the uterus to contract during pregnancy before labor begins on its own — sometimes by injecting a version of the hormone oxytocin into a vein to start contractions.
Doctors usually consider inducing labor if the mother has gone a week or two past her due date, if labor hasn’t started after the water breaks or if the mother or baby has developed a serious medical condition that makes birth necessary.
Doctors also perform elective labor inductions for the convenience of the mother when there is no medical need. Depending on the circumstances, these elective procedures remain controversial in natural birth circles, if only because there are risks involved when labor is induced.
Whether or not Rocky Thirteen was born this week, he will be the first baby together for Kardashian and Baker. Kardashian already is the mother of daughter Penelope Scotland, 11, and sons Reign Aston, 8, and Mason Dash, 13, with ex-boyfriend Scott Disick. Barker shares daughter Alabama Luella, 17, and son Landon, 19, plus stepdaughter Atiana De La Hoya, 24, with his ex-wife Shanna Moakler.
