LIVERMORE — A 44-year-old man has been charged with mayhem for allegedly slicing a family member’s ear most of the way off during a gathering last month, court records show.

Raymond Diaz, of Livermore, was charged with a single count of mayhem. He remains jailed in lieu of $110,000 bail, court records show.

Livermore police were called to a residence on the 1100 block of East Stanley Boulevard at around 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 17 for a report of a man bleeding profusely from his head. Responding officers found other family members comforting the victim, whose “ear had almost been completely severed from his head,” a police investigator wrote in court papers.

Several eyewitnesses identified Diaz as the stabber, authorities said. When officers began reading him his rights, police say he “started to ramble on about how he was God.” Officers also found roughly five grams of methamphetamine and a pipe in his possession, and say he displayed other “objective signs” of drug intoxication, records show.

Diaz is next due in court on Dec. 7. He has pleaded not guilty.
