A substitute teacher at Anderson Middle School was arrested after allegedly exposing his buttocks to a class of sixth-graders.
The incident was reported to Anderson police around noon on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
A vice principal at the school said two sixth-graders came to her office and said that the teacher’s jeans and underpants were dropped to mid-thigh as he was seated behind his desk, the police statement said. The vice principal went to the classroom and found the teacher exposed as the students had described. She escorted him from campus and called the police.
The man’s surrender was arranged that evening, and he was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure and annoying or molesting a child, police said.
The suspect is 32 years old and was identified as being from Connecticut. The police said it is believed he has substituted in other Shasta County schools.
Redding television station KRCR said the man’s social media profiles indicate he graduated in May from Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry, an unaccredited program run by a Redding megachurch.
A statement to the TV station by Cascade Union Elementary School District Superintendent Jason Provence called the incident “hideous” and “appalling,” and said the district follows all state and county protocols for background checks of substitute teachers.
