SAN JOSE — Police said a woman was found dead at a home near Coyote Creek in San Jose on Sunday evening in what appeared to be a homicide.

In a news release Monday, San Jose police said that officers were called to a home on the 900 Block of Thelma Way around 5:16 p.m. on Sunday for a report of a dead person. Authorities did not say who had called to make the report.

Upon arrival, officers found a woman with “obvious signs of physical trauma,” police said, though authorities did not say whether the person was found inside or outside the home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said that the circumstances surrounding the death remained under investigation, but it was being investigated as a homicide. There was no information released on any potential suspect or motive in the death.

The person’s identity was not immediately released Monday by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office.

The homicide was San Jose’s 31st killing of 2023.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant J.J. Vallejo #3810, or Detective Mike Harrington #4365 of the San José Police Department’s Homicide Unit via email:  3810@sanjoseca.gov and/or 4365@sanjoseca.gov or at 408-277-5283.
