ALL-BAY AREA NEWS GROUP FOOTBALL 2023

DEFENSIVE BACKS

First team 

Joseph Bey, Serra, 6-1, 195, senior

WCAL defensive back of the year. San Jose State commit had nine tackles in 28-0 victory over NorCal 1-AA champion De La Salle. 

Scott Garwood, Los Gatos, 5-10, 170, senior

PAL Bay co-defensive back of the year. Had 140 tackles, four interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Scored four rushing touchdowns and five receiving TDs for CCS Division I champions. 

Jack Horton, San Ramon Valley, 6-3, 188, senior

First-team all-EBAL Mountain. Returned an interception for a touchdown against Liberty, and had 69 tackles and two interceptions for the NCS Division I runners-up. 

Jadyn Hudson, Pittsburg, 6-2, 190, junior

First-team all-BVAL. Had six interceptions, including a pick-six at Sacred Heart Cathedral and an interception in NCS Division I championship victory against San Ramon Valley. 

Second team 

Ri’Yon Cooper, Wilcox, 6-0 175, senior

PAL Bay co-defensive back of the year. Had four tackles and a fumble recovery in Wilcox’s upset victory over St. Francis in the CCS Open Division playoffs. 

Harry Housser, Menlo School, 6-0, 170, senior

PAL De Anza defensive back of the year. Had an interception and caught a 25-yard touchdown in a victory over HIllsdale. 

Jake Spencer, Campolindo, 5-9, 170, senior

First-team all-DAL Foothill. Had 29 tackles, one interception, one rushing touchdown and a receiving TD as an all-around standout for DAL Foothill co-champions. 

Jeaden Underwood, The King’s Academy, 5-7, 190, senior

PAL De Anza MVP. Starred at defensive back while also rushing for 1,374 yards and 19 touchdowns as the team’s top running back.
