FREMONT – A shelter-in-place order was issued Friday in Fremont following an ammonia leak at an ice business, authorities said.
The leak was first reported around 10:30 a.m. at Arctic Glacier Ice, located at 43960 Fremont Blvd., according to the Fremont Fire Department. Crews arrived to find a large cloud above the business and employees in the midst of an evacuation.
Shortly before noon, authorities issued a shelter-in-place order for the area west of Fremont Boulevard, north of South Grimmer Boulevard, east of South Grimmer Boulevard and south of Auto Mall Parkway. The order remained in place until 1 p.m.
Crews “terminated the exterior leak” after confirming it was limited to ammonia, authorities said.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the leak is under investigation. The business was non-operational as of Friday, authorities said.
“To help ensure the business is able to fully resume operations, FFD hazardous materials inspectors will stay in contact with facility personnel,” the department said.
