LAFAYETTE — It’s not yet known yet if the person stopped for fuel, but someone  at a gas station here filled up their pocketbook Tuesday night by winning $713,143 in the Mega Millions lottery game, officials said.

The ticket was purchased at a 76 station at 3500 Mt. Diablo Blvd., officials said.

The unknown winner was the only person in the state to pick all five regular game numbers, which were 3, 18, 27, 29 and 64.

Had they also picked the Mega number, which was 1, they would have collected the $57 million jackpot. No one picked all five numbers and the Mega number, which means the jackpot for the next Mega Millions drawing Friday night will be at least $140 million, officials said.

The winner has 180 days from the day of the draw to collect their money.

A gas station employee said Wednesday morning he was not aware the winning ticket had been sold there and he had no idea who purchased it. He could not recall such a large lottery ticket being sold at the station.

“It’s definitely exciting,” he said. “I’m happy for the person.”
