STANFORD – Cameron Brink had 19 points, 19 rebounds and seven blocks as Stanford rolled to an 80-60 win over UCLA in a nationally televised matchup between top 10 teams Sunday afternoon at a sold-out Maples Pavilion.
With the win, the fourth-ranked Cardinal (20-3, 9-2) remained tied with Colorado atop the Pac-12.
After giving up 51 points in JuJu Watkins in a loss to USC Friday night, Stanford came out firing Sunday. It led 45-27 at halftime and was up by 30 late in the third quarter.
No. 7 UCLA (17-4, 6-4) didn’t have Lauren Betts, who came to Stanford as the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2022 but transferred to the Bruins after playing sparingly last season. Betts, who leads the team in points (15.4) and rebounds (8.6), has missed the past four games for undisclosed medical reasons.
Brink took advantage of Betts’ absence. The senior forward added to her nation’s best 3.38 blocks a game and shot 8 of 10 from the field. Her frontcourt partner Kiki Iriafen added 18 points and seven rebounds.
After scoring 13 points in the first half, UCLA’s Charisma Osborne was scoreless on seven shots in the second half in the last scheduled conference meeting between the longtime rivals.
Stanford travels to Washington and Washington State next weekend before returning to Maples to face Cal on Feb. 16.
