ALAMO — A Merced man is facing burglary charges after he allegedly left his DNA inside a local home where he and two others made off with $100,000 worth of jewelry, cash and other valuables, court records show.
The 26-year-old suspect was charged on Jan. 29 with first-degree residential burglary, a felony, in connection with the September 2023 break-in. Police say surveillance video captured three men break into a home on Sugar Creek Lane in Alamo through a rear window and ransack the place for valuables.
The suspect was arrested after a DNA test confirmed he had left skin cells on a safe inside the home, which is located off of Stone Valley Road. His DNA has also been linked to home burglaries in Santa Clara County, authorities said.
The residents were out of town during the Alamo break-in. Police say the burglars disabled one home security camera but left others untouched.
