OAKLAND — An Oakland man will serve a 19-year state prison sentence after pleading no contest to manslaughter in a 2021 shooting, court records show.
Alex Myers, 33, pleaded no contest on Dec. 22 to voluntary manslaughter in the death of 23-year-old Isiah Dubose. He remains in Santa Rita Jail pending transfer to the state prison system, court records show.
Myers was arrested and charged within 10 days of the Feb. 15, 2021 killing of Dubose. Authorities said at the time that the shooting took place during an illegal gun sale after Dubose met with a group of people on the 600 block of 10th Street in Oakland.
Surveillance footage of the shooting reportedly showed Dubose being shot within minutes of entering an SUV containing three people, who promptly fled after shots were fired. After Myers was identified as a suspect, police said he identified himself from the footage but denied any involvement in the homicide, saying he ran from the area after hearing gunfire, but couldn’t identify the source.
In exchange for Myers’ no contest plea, prosecutors dismissed murder, assault, and gun possession charges against him.
