The National Weather Service has issued a rare tornado warning for parts of Santa Cruz and San Benito counties Saturday evening.
The alert to residents was based on a severe thunderstorm in Moss Landing at 6:14 p.m. that is “capable of producing a tornado,” the alert said.
Residents were advised to take shelter in a basement or interior room on the lowest level of a sturdy building.
The warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. Saturday, or until further NWS notice.
