OAKLAND — A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run collision Monday morning in East Oakland, authorities said.

Police and the coroner’s office were trying to identify him.

Police responding to reports of a person down in the roadway about 12:48 a.m. at the intersection of 75th Avenue and San Leandro Street found the man unresponsive with major injuries, including a severed leg. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was determined the man’s injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle, police said.

The vehicle that hit the man and its driver did not remain at the scene, police said.

Detailed descriptions of the driver and vehicle have not yet been released.

Investigators said it is not known if speed or alcohol were factors in the collision.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the driver who fled. Anyone with information may call police traffic investigators at 510-777-8570 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
