ALASKA: Antioch’s Kay Carden and Brentwood residents Ann Bergerhouse and Janet and Alan Aceves — “all sisters and our lone male companion was our brother-in-law,” Kay says — recently returned from Alaska, where they saw the Northern Lights and took a walking tour of the Matanuska Glacier.
“We hiked around the glacier for three hours at -39 degrees,” Kay says. “Our guide from Salmon Berry Travel & Tours said it was the second coldest day she had ever hiked in. The day before was the first coldest day, -45.”
TRAVEL TIPS: “We hired a professional tour guide and rented cold weather clothing/equipment from a local rental company for the entire eight day vacation. Both were a must for such a cold weather vacation. It was an amazing trip.”
