OAKLEY — A 38-year-old Oakley man shot a gun at his father and later was stabbed by him during a struggle over the gun Thursday, police said.
Police did not have an update on the son’s condition Friday morning following the violent struggle at a home on Omega Lane.
In a statement, Oakley police said officers were called to the residence about 6:50 a.m. and determined that the 38-year-old was armed with a shotgun and threatened his parents with it.
During a struggle between father and son, the shotgun discharged into the ceiling, missing the father, police said. The father also stabbed his son more than once during the struggle in what police said was his attempt to stop him.
Eventually the father was able to gain control over his son, and the son’s mother disarmed him, police said.
A medical helicopter airlifted the man to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. Police did not say how serious they were. The father and mother were not injured physically.
Police continue to investigate and said they will work with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office to determine what charges will be filed against the man.
