OAKLAND — Two adults and two teens have been charged in connection with a Feb. 19 shootout where dozens of shots were fired and five people were injured, prosecutors announced Friday.

The adult defendants, identified in an Alameda County District Attorney news release as Keeric Lamont Johnson, 23, and Joshua Smiley, 19, face charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, as well as shooting into an inhabited dwelling. Johnson also faces a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The juvenile suspects haven’t been named, nor have authorities said what charges were filed against them.

The shootout occurred outside of a corner store on the 3800 block of West Street in Oakland, authorities said. Police reportedly found 45 shell casings and two firearms at the scene.

The preliminary hearing for Johnson and Smiley — where a judge will review prosecution evidence and determine if it is sufficient to keep the charges — has been set for May 15, court records show.

At the time of the shooting, Johnson was one probation for a 2022 auto theft conviction, for which he was given one day in jail, court records show. His probation was set to expire on Saturday. He was arrested March 22, in Fremont, records show.

Smiley, meanwhile, has been behind bars since six days after the shooting, when police in Oakland arrested him on suspicion of carjacking and robbery. He is facing a separate case in that incident, records show.
