San Jose police have arrested over three months almost 50 people with outstanding warrants for crimes related to sexual assault, according to a statement by the department.

The sweep, which lasted from February to April, brought in a total of 46 people suspected of committing a range of crimes from misdemeanor sexual assault to felony cases of sexual assault of a minor and rape, police said in a news release Tuesday.

The suspects that were arrested were mostly men, but at least one suspect was a woman. Their ages ranged between 19 and 73 years old. Most of the suspects were from San Jose, but some of those arrested were from other Bay Area cities.

Several were arrested out of state, in Wyoming, Louisiana and New Mexico.

San Jose Police’s Sexual Assaults Investigation Unit coordinated with San Jose Patrol Officers and the city’s Street Crimes Unit to make the arrests. San Jose police stated that the arrestees were suspected of crimes that occurred between 2019 and 2024.

“Our SAIU Detectives do an outstanding job in holding these perpetrators accountable, allowing our survivors to begin their healing process and to have a peace of mind,” said acting police Chief Paul Joseph. “I am grateful for their dedication to taking these dangerous criminals off the streets and bringing justice for our survivors.”

The department’s statement noted that there may be numerous victims after the arrests and urged anyone with additional information to contact the San Jose Police Department’s Sexual Assaults Investigations Unit at 408-277-4102.
