SAN LEANDRO — A 64-year-old man was convicted Tuesday of assaulting two San Leandro police officers in 2017, according to authorities.

An Alameda County jury also found Terry Gordon guilty of causing great bodily injury to the officers, the San Leandro Police Department said in a news release Thursday.

Gordon is scheduled to be sentenced next month, police said.

The incident happened on Sept. 17, 2017, when the officers tried to stop Gordon on suspicion of shoplifting from the Greenway Marketplace Safeway, located at 699 Lewelling Blvd.

The officers struggled with Gordon next to and inside his parked car. Gordon managed to start his car and drive away, knocking down both officers and running over one.

The officer who was run over suffered broken bones in their left arm and left hand, as well as “extensive nerve damage,” police said. After three surgeries and 18 months of recovery and physical therapy, the officer was able to return to full duty.

The other officer was treated at an area hospital and released the same day as the incident.

On Sept. 18, 2017, detectives arrested Gordon in Oakland following a brief vehicle pursuit.

“I’d like to thank the jury for their time and efforts on bringing closure to this horrific case by removing a dangerous individual off our streets,” police Chief Angela Averiett said in a statement.
