Whether you spell it doughnut or donut, it’s a great day when freebies are involved.
Today — Friday, June 7 — is National Doughnut Day, and the nation’s two major chains are celebrating with promotions.
KRISPY KREME: At participating Krispy Kreme locations, you can stop by for a free doughnut. No purchase is required, but the offer doesn’t include specialty doughnuts like the new Dolly Parton line of sweets. A second deal: When you buy any dozen doughnuts, you can get a dozen Original Glazed for just $2 with the code BOGO2.

DUNKIN’: This Friday, Dunkin’ customers will receive a free classic doughnut with the purchase of any beverage (while supplies last). What’s a classic doughnut? You have lots of choices: Boston Kreme, Glazed, Glazed Chocolate, Strawberry Frosted with Sprinkles, among others.
YUM YUM DONUTS: This SoCal-based chain, with more than 90 locations in California, doesn’t have a Doughnut Day deal per se, but its shops always give reward club members 14 doughnuts in every dozen box.
