Almost 50 square miles on Lake Oroville’s west shore was under evacuation order for the Thompson Fire.

The order covers the Oregon City and Kelly Ridge communities and extends into Oroville.

The fire was reported around 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, along the Feather River about 3 miles downstream of Oroville Dam. By Wednesday morning, it had burned 3,002 acres (4.7 square miles), said the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The map above shows the approximate perimeter as a black line and the evacuation area in red. For more evacuation details, including the warning areas, see the Butte County emergency map or the CalFire/Butte County Facebook page.

Evacuation centers are at the Nazarene church in Oroville (2238 Monte Vista Ave.) and the fairgrounds in Gridley (199 E. Hazel St.). Small animals were being taken at 2279 Del Oro Ave. in Oroville and large animals at Camelot Equestrian Park (1985 Clark Road, Oroville).
