San Jose Vice Mayor Rosemary Kamei, holding the bullhorn, leads a tour of the El Paseo shopping center area for urban planning students from San Jose State University in February. Kamei, whose West San Jose council district abuts Saratoga, contacted SJSU about bringing in urban planning students to help conduct research on the potential impact of a proposed Costco near the border of the two cities. Student interns are also working with the Los Gatos Thrives Foundation to help shape the vision for a new multigenerational community center in town. (Photo courtesy of Rick Kos)
