Seven people were injured in a head-on collision Saturday night on Salinas Road, and authorities arrested of one of the drivers, saying that alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Two cars were involved in the crash, which took place at 11:01 p.m. on Salinas Road south of Elkhorn Road, according to a CHP news release Monday. A southbound Infiniti FX35 driven by an Oakland resident drifted into the northbound lanes, authorities said, striking a Chevrolet Silverado head-on and causing the SUB to overturn.
A 23-year-old Moss Landing man driving the Chevrolet and his juvenile passenger were taken to a hospital with what authorities called “suspected moderate to major injuries.” The driver of the Infiniti, along with four passengers ranging in age from 18 to 35, were also taken to a hospital; at least two of them had broken bones, and two others had head or neck injuries.
Authorities said the driver of the Infiniti, a 34-year-old man, was arrested. Monterey County jail records did not show him in custody on Monday.
