A motorcyclist in Oakland and a person in a car in San Jose both died in weekend freeway crashes, the California Highway Patrol said.
The fatal wreck in San Jose happened about 5:55 a.m. Sunday and involved a white sedan that lost control and ran into a barrier on southbound Interstate 280 at the McLaughlin Avenue exit, according to the CHP.
It was not known immediately whether that person was a driver or passenger. The CHP did not say why the car lost control. The vehicle ended up with major front-end damage.
The motorcyclist in Oakland wound up down in the second-to-far-left lane on eastbound Interstate 580 at the 35th Avenue exit early Saturday. The first reports of the crash came about 3:20 a.m.
The CHP issued a Sig Alert for severe traffic after the motorcycle wreck, because all lanes were blocked. The alert stayed in place until about 6:35 a.m.
Both motorists died at the scene, according to the CHP. Authorities did not identify either of them on Sunday.
